The Archbishop of Canterbury has some interesting things to say about the Christmas tradition. He in fact echos things that I figured out when I was twelve and talked to my adopted father about (who happened to be a Lutheran Minister).

He's taken the necessary first step in shaking the yoke of oppression, but he then makes the mistake of going on to say:

"The thing is, belief in Santa does not generate a moral code, it does not generate art, it does not generate imagination. Belief in God is a bit bigger than that," the Archbishop said."

Really? So the whole naughty and nice list nonsense doesn't motivate some children to behave? I've seen some really fantastic paintings of Santa, and if I'm not mistaken, there is a whole sub culture devoted to imagining his sleigh, his elves, his wife and literature dedicated to these things as well.

Step by step, people are taking the excruciatingly slow and painful strides towards the truth. You have to wonder if the gods of ancient Greece were dissected like this at one point too.
